The Nest
It’s that time again where our older children are starting their settling in visits to the Den ready to start in summer. They have had little visits this week and have done really well in adapting to their new environment.
Communication and Language
The children have shown an interest in dinosaurs during our time in the garden. To further extend this, we created a dinosaur tuff tray for the children to explore. The children used words like “Dinabaur, mama, baby, saur stomp” upon seeing the large dinosaurs. They used both hands to pick the dinosaurs up making them stomp around the room. The children noticed a soft dinosaur had a zip, revealing hidden baby dinosaurs in its tummy. The older children demonstrated good control in moving the zip up and down to open it.
The children participated in the dinosaur themed song and actions by clapping their hands and pretending to run. They listened intently to the song and followed its sequence. There was lots of excitement with laughing and shrieking.
Physical Development
The children experimented with play dough using natural objects, wooden tools and stampers. They demonstrated good fine motor skills by manipulating the play dough from squeezing, stretching and patting. The children showed good control in moving the tools within the play dough. Whole hand grasps were used to hold and move the wooden tools, further exploring the play dough. The children placed the stampers onto the play dough which revealed an outline of a dinosaur skeleton, they were so intrigued by this with lots of pointing. The children showed good concentration skills, as they were fully focussed and engaged in what they were doing.
The children have had a lovely time in exploring the oat sensory tray with wooden objects. They reached forward grasping handfuls of the oats and released their grasp as they watched them sprinkle back down into the tray. The children demonstrated good hand eye coordination by using the wooden spoon to scoop up the oats and place them into the bowl. Some children were using the wooden objects by banging them together to create different noises.
Baby Yoga
We were very kindly visited by Hayley from Kalma baby yoga again on Tuesday afternoon. She conducted a session with the children using Pom-poms, parachute games and bubbles. The children had lots of fun!
It will be Hayley’s last session next week with being the end of term, we’d like to thank Hayley and hope to see her back soon.
