2-3: The Discovery Hub
As the summer period approaches, our older children have been beginning to visit the Investigation Hub. They have had short visits with staff into the environment to explore the indoors and meet some of the staff team. We had some lovely explorations and the children were so curious to see what we would find downstairs.
We have had some visitors from the Den this week, as the children have begun to visit the Discovery Hub in preparation for their move to the room. Our Discoverers have been wonderful in helping show the new children where the resources are and have shared lovely interactions with the children.
Playing and Exploring
The children have been so excited to see the progress of the cocoons this week. On Monday, we were able to observe the butterfly hatch out of the cocoon. Over the week, the children have regularly asked to look at the butterflies to see how many we have. They have been so excited observing the butterflies moving up the net, flapping their wings and sitting on the bananas. Together the children have mixed water and sugar for the butterflies as we make them a drink. We will be releasing the butterflies with the children today.
This week the children helped to create snack. We discussed how we need to wash our hands before touching the food. The children then moved to the kitchen and followed the instructions. They explored peeling the skins off the bananas before safely using a knife to chop the banana into pieces. The children were so proud of their achievements as during snack time they reflected on the experience.
- “me cut the banana”
- “with a knife”
- “need wash hands”
Outdoor Learning
The children have continued to enjoy exploring outdoor mark making experiences. As we explored using water and brushes to make marks, some of the children began to notice the marks disappearing. We then explored creating hand prints on the wall and observed them disappear after a few minutes.
