The Den:

We have had another great week in The Den as we continue our focus on dinosaurs. We have had lots of transitional visits across to The Discovery Hub with some of our oldest children. The children are adapting so well to their new space and learning new aspects of the routine.

Characteristics of effective learning:

We have continued our focus on dinosaurs this week as the children thoroughly enjoyed playing with them last week. We created a dinosaur sensory tray which contained leaves, fake grass and sand for the children to explore. The children were very keen to explore and enjoyed feeling all the different textures in the tray. We added some wet sand which allowed us to see the dinosaurs footprints- the children were fascinated by this and were curious about this footprints in the sand. We witnessed some great role-play as the children attempted to ‘feed’ the dinosaurs leaves and grass.

Some of the children took off their socks and shoes to immerse themselves in the tray. They explored the textures with their feet and walked around in the tray.

Alongside the tray, we have been singing ‘there’s a dinosaur’ song. The children have really enjoyed learning the words/ actions to this song across the week.
