The Discovery Hub and Investigation Hub
Playing, exploring and active learning
This week animals has been such a large interest for our older children as they become inquisitive about where animals live, how they move and what they do. We added this interest to their interest of drawings by allowing the children to watch small videos of animals , talking about what’s happening then drawing that animal.
Earlier this week, the children participated in some lovely food tasting activities where they explored a range of fruits such as pineapple, dragon fruit and lemons!
Story of the week
Our story of the week this week is the ‘The Three Little Pigs’ which is always a favourite amongst all of the children. As our understanding grows, most of the children are able to anticipate what is happening next or which character we are about to see.
The children enjoyed building houses for the pigs. We set up straw, bricks and sticks on the table, and allowed the children to explore and experiment in different ways how to build their houses. They then attempted to blow their house down, saying “Huff, Puff and Blow”.
Outdoor play
This week we have been greeted by lots and lots of lovely ladybirds who are attracted to our shed in the garden. In the pervious weeks, the children found numerous larva (baby ladybirds) on the leaves of the bushes which have now turned into ladybirds. While exploring the ladybirds, we talked about the life cycle of ladybirds and how we must be careful when trying to get the lady birds to crawl on on our hands. The children took great care of the lady birds and were engrossed with them for a long period of time. 🐞
