The Den:
Physical development:
We have had a busy week in The Den with lots of lovely play opportunities.
The children enjoyed using the tunnel this week. They showed good physical skills as they manoeuvred themselves down, then through the tunnel. We also let the children stand in the tunnel to envelop themselves inside. I spoke “where is?…” then pulled it down revealing the child, they loved this!
We have been drawing using chalk this week on a large tuff tray. The children enjoyed selecting a colour out of the box, then using it to make large scale marks. We spoke lots about the direction of the chalk, whether it was going up and down or side to side. Some of the children were able to identify the colours of the chalk which was lovely to see!
Communication and language:
Singing time is always favourite among our children in The Den. This week, we have been looking at musical instruments and musical sensory bottles. The children enjoyed a group experience where we sat in a circle and sang physical songs with the bottles. I sung “shakey shakey up and down” and the children were able to copy the actions and shake their bottles. We then spoke about speed, I sung “shakey your bottle fast….. now slow” and demonstrated the difference. The children were able to copy and really enjoyed this activity.
Outdoor learning:
We have had some lovely sunny weather this week. We have been going outside early before it gets too hot! The children enjoyed painting with brushes and water. This was a lovely opportunity to add new vocabulary such as “dip, dap, paint, up” and “down”.
Next week is the last week of term for term-time only children.
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!
