The Den:

Another busy, fun-filled week as we continue our focus on vehicles. We have also been looking at pets in our small world area and spent lots of time in the garden.

Characteristics of effective learning:

The children have enjoyed participating in our ‘car wash’ activity this week in the water tray, continuing their interest in cars. The children really enjoyed washing the cars using warm, soapy water and sponges. The children used good fine motor skills to grasp the sponges and thoroughly enjoyed squeezing the water out of them. I asked the children to wash different parts of the car like the windows, doors and wheels. Most of the older children were able to this with ease, showing good understanding.

This was a great opportunity to add vocabulary like “squeeze, pop, wash, splash, wheels” and “windows”. Water play is always a hit with the children and is such a great way to add lots of vocabulary!

Physical development:

We were visited again by Faye from Kalma baby yoga on Monday again. Faye conducted a lovely session, filled with music, dancing and of course- lots of bubbles! This week, she brought a balancing beam for the children to help develop key gross motor skills and enhance coordination. The children worked hard to independently walk across it, showing good determination!

Outside, we have been exploring dinosaurs in the tuff tray, with the addition of leaves and twigs. It has been lovely to observe our youngest children pull themselves to stand and explore the dinosaurs in the tray. We heard some great expressive language as the children attempted to imitate dinosaur noises.

The stepping stones have also been a hit this week! The children know to ask for help from an adult to support them to step along them. The children enjoyed attempting to count along as they step and some spoke “jump” as they get to the end.

Parent as partners:

We are updating our photographs around the environment. If you have any photos of your child:

  • At the beach
  • With household pets
  • At the farm

Please send them to staff so we can update our areas with photos of the children.

Reminder nursery is closed tomorrow Friday 20th June for staff training day.
