The Nest

Our focused song has been “Wheels on the Bus”, the children have explored a range of activities that has related to the song. Also this has supported the children’s fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children enjoyed exploring the coloured pom poms, placing them onto sticky paper. They grasped the pom poms using their whole hand and confidently placed them onto the paper, demonstrating good control in developing their hand-eye coordination.

To further extend this activity, we provided a box with holes, and the children eagerly pushed pom poms through them, further developing their fine motor skills. The children were highly engaged throughout the activity, fully focused on the task.

Physical Development

The children demonstrated good hand control, as they moved the buses back and forth in the shredded wheat creating some lovely track marks. They were feeling the wheat between their fingers letting it drop back into the tray. The children spent some time exploring the buses moving them in different directions. There was some lovely interactions betweem the children with lots of smiling and sharing the buses.

Children engaged in car painting, exploring diverse hand movements and paint textures. They used their hands to manipulate the paint, creating marks by pushing cars back and forth. Positive interactions were observed as they shared cars and smiled at each other. The children really enjoyed painting with cars experimenting with different hand movements as they explored the paint.

Communication and Language

The children have loved doing the actions to “Wheels on the Bus”, as they have followed along with the song sequence. They knew which actions came next with the flow of the song. The children listened intently as we read different bus books with interactive parts. The children were pointing at different pictures within the books creating different babble sounds. The children sat for a period of time where they were engaged in looking at the different pictures.

We have explored a valentines tuff tray with different textured heart objects where the children used their hands to feel the texture. The children then experimented with paint and heart cutters creating different marks. They showed good control in moving the cutters around the paper, as they explored the paint further.
