The Nest
Characteristics of Effective Learning:
This week, the children thoroughly enjoyed making marks with sticks that they collected from the garden. They were curious about the sticks as they looked at them with great intent. The children placed their sticks into the paint and then onto their paper creating some lovely marks. During the exploration they showed some great interactions towards each other, there was a lot of babble sounds and smiling.
Communication and Language
There has been lots of sounds and vocalisations coming from the children this week as they have been experimenting with new sounds and words. The children have shown an interest in books as they have been contently looking at them, turning the pages and identifying certain pictures.
Physical Development
We have had a lovely time in the garden exploring the leaves as they fall from the trees. The children were looking for sticks in the garden for our painting activity. Curiosity was shown by the children as they watched the bubbles blow around the garden. You could see the anticipation in the children’s faces, as Mercy blew the bubbles. They were reaching out saying “pop”, “bubble” and “wee”, as their vocabulary develops.
The children have experimented with pencils, creating some lovely marks on the paper. They explored using their pincer and palmer grip in holding the pencils and showed good control in moving it around the paper. The children demonstrated good use of their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination.
