The Nest

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children experimented with balls and paint, where they rolled the balls to create different marks. The children were fascinated with the different marks the balls had created, as they were pointing and smiling at them. The children were rolling the balls to each other showing some lovely interactions. Some children said “more” pointing at the paint, as they placed the balls into the paint moving them around the tray.

Communication and Language

The children were very excited when the lights were turned off and the sensory light was put on. You could see the anticipation in the children’s faces, as they want to know what was happening. The children enjoyed looking at the different lights and patterns, as it projected onto the ceiling. There was lots of enjoyment and laughter from the children showing their engagement.

Physical Development

The children have enjoyed placing the balls onto tape and pulling them off. The children enjoyed the sensations of the stickiness of the tape and texture of the balls. The children spent a considerable amount of time exploring this activity, as they were fully engaged in what they were doing.

The children have been experimenting with water and sponges, as they were so engaged by dipping the sponges in the water and squeezing while watching the water drip from the sponge.

Parent Partnerships

We have had some new babies who have joined the nest and have settled really well creating some lovely attachments with familiar key staff.

It is so important for our babies to have those attachments, as this crutial for early child development. Attachment provides a sense of security, emotional regulation and a foundation for future relationships and well-being.
