The Nest
We are so proud of the children who have started in the nest recently, as they have adapted well to their new environment and formed positive relationships with key familiar staff members.
Characteristics of Effective Learning
This week, the nest has been rich with sensory exploration, including water play with ducks and nets, and painting using flower cutters.
Communication and Language
The children enjoyed our small group song time. Each child had a turn to take a prop out of the box, as we sang the song. Some children participated in the actions to the song, showing a good understanding of following the song sequence. There were some lovely interactions observed between the children, with lots of laughter and smiling. The children sat for a short period of time, listening to different songs, as they were focused and engaged.
The children were happy to look at various animal pictures. They watched intently as the adult turned the pages, babbling and pointing with animated facial expressions. It was also lovely to hear some of them imitating the different animal sounds.
Physical Development
The children have had a lovely time in exploring the water with ducks and nets, by showing good hand control in scooping the ducks. They were holding the net using their whole hand grasp trying to scoop the ducks. The children explored the water further by splashing their hands showing their enjoyment with lots of smiling and babble sounds.
The children were curious about the paint by placing their hands in the paint observing it’s texture and movement. They picked up the heart and flower shaped cutters, gripping it firmly with their whole hand, and examined it with intense focus. The children moved the cutters around the paper creating some lovely marks
