The Nest

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children enjoyed exploring the Christmas sensory tray including tinsel, baubles, stockings and puppets. Placing the baubles into the stocking, they showed good control and hand-eye coordination. The children explored using their hands, feeling the texture of the tinsel. They spent a considerable amount of time investigating different objects in the tray, showing obvious enjoyment and curiosity.

Physical Development

The children have experimented with Christmas cutters and paint in creating some lovely marks. They showed good control in placing the cutters into the paint and moving it around their page, demonstrating use of their fine motor skills and again, hand-eye coordination. The children interacted beautifully with each other, with lots of smiling and sharing of the cutters.

Communication and Language

We have introduced some Christmas songs to the children this week: ‘Twinkle Twinkle Christmas Star’ and ‘When Santa Got Stuck Up the Chimney’. The children joined in with some of the actions, especially “Achoo Achoo Achoo” at the end! The anticipation in their faces, waiting for their favourite part to come, was a joy to see!

We have also introduced some Christmas books and props which the children have thoroughly enjoyed, especially when feeling the texture of the different pictures and materials. They were fascinated with the Santa hat; even Mercy had fun with it!

Parent Partnerships
