The Nest
Our focused songs have been “1 2 3 4 5, once I caught a fish alive” and “Insy winsy spider”. The children have explored a range of sensory based activities that have further developed their gross/fine motor skills.
Characteristics of Effective Learning
The children enjoyed a stroll around the bottom garden in the large buggy. They were watching the older children play in the garden. They were full of smiles and babble sounds as we walked around the garden. Even the older children were helping me push the buggy up the ramp.
Physical Development
The children have had a lovely time in exploring the water with fish, balls and nets. They were reaching out for different objects to hold and watching the fish move around the water. The children noticed some bubbles in the water, using their hands to explore the texture looking at them so intently.
Communication and Language
The children showed curiosity towards the “Under the Sea” tuff tray, observing it with such focussed attention. They were extending their hands out to find the objects that were hiding in the paper. The children demonstrated good understanding of seeking and finding different objects. The children experimented with different ways in how they explored the paper. Some children would scrunch it between their hands and others would let it drop from a height.
The children found a spider on the floor watching it moving around. We further extended this, we sang “Insy Winsy Spider”. We provided a tuff tray with insects, sticky tape and pictures of real life insects. The children were looking at the insects with such fascination and curiosity. They were intrigued with the stickiness of the tape, as they were pulling the insects off enjoying the sensation.

As you may have seen on the landing, we have some paper bags on the table. These are our new ‘home loan’ activity bags. Inside each bag is an activity you can do at home with your child that relates to something we are doing at nursery.
Please feel free to take a bag home and complete the activity with your child. We do ask the resources are returned in the bag so they can be used for another family. Please share any photos you take with your child completing the activity via ‘parent observation’.
