The Nest

Characteristics of Effective Learning:

It has been Rhyme week in nursery, so we have enjoyed “Old McDonald” and planned sensory based activities for the children to explore and investigate.

The children have explored the sensory farm using their hands to feel the texture of the crispies and green paper. There was lots of scrunching of the paper to make a rustling sound from the children’s hands. As the children did this they smiled. The children picked up the animals with their whole hand grasp moving them around the tray. There was lots of concentration coming from the children, where they were fully engaged with the different textures they were exploring.

Communication and Language

The children had a lovely time listening to the rhyme “Old Mac Donald” with puppets. They were focused as staff made different animal sounds and enjoyed listening attentively alongside their peers.

Physical Development

The children enjoyed exploring paint and farm animals, using their hands to create mark and mixing colours. They were fascinated by how the paint changed colour and observed their hands covered in paint experimented in making marks.

Children in Need

We have been looking at different coloured pom poms, as the children develop their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination when placing the pom poms onto the sticky tape. The children placed their hands onto the tape, pulling it straight off to feel the sensation of the stickiness of the tape.
