2-3: The Discovery Hub

We cannot believe how quick this half term has been. We are all proud of the progress the children have been making across the term, developing their relationships and interests.

This week, we have been engaging in Easter explorations within the indoor and outdoor environment. The children have been very interested with the various activities with eggs. We have explored using the eggs in paint and the children tried covering the eggs to roll across their paper. The children showed perseverance as the added more paint on the eggs to create more marks. The Easter playdough cutters have been a great interest with the children as they use language to request the cutter such as “I have the rabbit” and “me want egg”.

During group times, we have been exploring sorting and counting chicks and rabbits into groups. As we introduced the activity the children listened to the adult’s description and made predictions of what it may be. The children were very quick to place the items into the groups.

In the outdoors, we had our own egg hunt. The children were very excited to look for the hidden eggs around the garden. They took turns with the baskets and searched together till they found them all. Once we had found them, the children asked “again” and “hide them again”. We repeated hiding and finding the eggs many times.

Within the indoor environment, the children explored looking for images of pattern eggs around the room. With modelling from staff, the children looked at their grids and searched the room. They displayed such great excitement as they found the eggs around the room commenting “I found it”” and “look it there!”.

Across the week, we have engaged in many Easter and Spring themed stories and rhymes. The children have enjoyed spotting the hidden eggs in the stories. We explored We’re going on an egg hunt after taking part in an egg hunt in the garden. The children explored moving the flaps to see if an egg was hiding behind. We were all very surprised with the ending as we found the big bad wolf behind the large egg! The children made lovely connections between the story and the Three Little Pigs and We’re going on a bear hunt, discussing the similarities between stories.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Stay and Play sessions and for a Parent Consultations. We hope you all enjoyed joining our Stay and Play sessions as the children showed you their favourite areas.
