The Discovery Hub and Investigation Hub
Playing and Exploring and Active Learning
This week has been half term and we have centred our learning around Autumn changes and Halloween.
We have looked at pumpkins noticing the different sizes of them and how they look and feel especially on the inside of the pumpkin, Leading to many messy play opportunities using their hands and the tools provided. The children have helped carve their own pumpkins, chose the design and then have displayed them proudly around nursery. The children showed excellent team work as they shared the carving resources and made decisions together. The children also went on an exciting pumpkin hunt around the garden and even planted their own pumpkin seeds in the allotment.
We have also went out on a leaf hunt with the children enjoying stomping, running and jumping through the leaves. The children also enjoyed scooping them up. The children were engaged as we talked about the changes we could see around us.
The children have thoroughly enjoyed stories this week with all of the children being able to finish off many of the sentences throughout story time. The Halloween books with movable parts have been a success and has helped further develop the children’s fine motor skills.
The older children have enjoyed some modelling using paper mache. The children chose their own box, carton etc and made their own decision to what to make we had a nest, a Halloween cake etc. The children enjoyed the different texture of the glue and commented “ it’s runny”, “it’s very messy” . As they laughed and got very messy.
The younger children have enjoyed decorating their own biscuits. They enjoyed mixing the icing and colouring together to see it go a lovely green colour and then they added their own sprinkles on top. The children used language such as “ more sprinkles please” and “it’s turned green”
