2-3: The Discovery Hub
We have been enjoying the nice weather in the garden this week. The children have been very engaged with the blossom falling from the trees covering the ground. Following on from the interest last week, the children continued to use spoons and pans to gather the blossom petals. The children explored using their hands and feet to gather the petals into piles. We added hula hoops to the experience as a spot to place the petals into. Within the garden we have explored creating marks with brushes and water, water tray exploring pouring and filling containers and followed with the children’s interest of bubbles as we explored creating large bubbles.
Understanding the world
This week we have been exploring the story Jaspers Beanstalk where we begun to look at how to plant seeds and take care of them. The children explored planting their own seeds and referred to the book to know they needed watering. We have already notices some of the seeds starting to open. The children have been suggesting what they may find at the top of the beanstalk such as “a lion” “a giant” and “a dinosaur”.
In the garden the children have explored the soil and the texture of the material. We added spoons and cups to the tray and the children explored filling and emptying the cups. Some of the children began to used language to describe the quantity such as “it full” or “all gone”.
Inside we explored having a flower hunt around the room. The children were very excited to locate the flowers around the room. We explored looking at the flowers on the wall and looked to find the matching flower on our sheets.
Physical Development
We added some new resources into the garden this week and the children showed lots of curiosity. The children tested out trying to throw the resource by holding the end of the material and realised it would not go far. After modelling from staff, the children explored holding the other end to throw them. The children were very excited with their achievements as they observed how far they could throw them. As children explored, some children tested out holding onto the material to bounce along the ground commenting “bounce, bounce, bounce”.
Staffing Updates
Over the last few weeks, staff attended training with Julie Mancini about wellbeing and engagement. Following on from this training we will be considering the levels of well-being and engagement we observe each day and using this knowledge of the children to further support their development.
Parents as Partners
We are closed on Monday 4th May and we will reopen on Tuesday 5th May.
Many thanks
