2-3: The Discovery Hub

This week we have been introducing group times in the Discovery Hub as we have a welcome time with the children and an end of session. These group times are an important part in the session as it is a chance to develop relationships between peers and staff as well as an opportunity to develop a sense of being part of a group. The children have been starting to look for their photos as self-registration where they have been keen for their turn to select the photo and stick it to the board.

Across the week we have introduce our core text That’s not my teddy. The children have engaged lovely with the text as they explore feeling the various textures on the page. We have been exploring taking turns with waiting to touch each page as we sit in our group times.

This week, we have been exploring many fine motor experiences developing the strength in our smaller movements. The children have enjoyed exploring with jigsaws, building with blocks and transferring pom poms. During these explorations the children have been exploring turning the jigsaw pieces and blocks around to ensure they would fit together. The children begin to show concentration using tweezers as they explore picking up pom poms to transfer them to another container.

In the outdoor area, the children are beginning to explore some wonderful imaginative ideas as they role play selling ice creams. Using their imagination to exchange the ice cream for money linking to their own experiences.

We had a lovely walk over to the community garden this week where we looked at many statues and talked about what we could see. The children showed lots of curiosity with the outdoor changes as we went on a walk to the community gardens. The children were very interest with the leaves on the ground. We explored throwing them up into the air and watched the fall back to the ground. As we moved through the garden, we noticed a tree had lots of berries on it. The children talked about how they had fallen down and that the birds would eat them. Some of the children were listening to the noises around them and labelled vehicles such as police, diggers and planes.

Staffing updates

On Monday, Emma took part in training “Working with 2-year olds” reflecting on the role of a key person, developing our environments and the importance of our curriculum.

Lauren is on annual leave Thursday and Friday.

Parents as Partners

This week our song of the week has been Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. The children have enjoyed singing this song and have explored using some signs while singing.

As we explore our love of books in nursery and at home, we have a basket in the coat area with many books. Please feel free to take one home to read and return to nursery. Each child has their own folder where you can place your book in to take home. There is a slip in the folder for any comments you may wish to make and staff can add this to the tree in nursery.

Please can we ask that all jackets and coats are labelled with your child’s name as we have a few which are the same and it makes it easier for staff to identify clothing. Could we also ask for spare clothes for your child’s basket, if you are unsure if we need any for your child please speak to a member of staff.

Have a lovely weekend!
