2-3: The Discovery Hub
This week we have been exploring our emotions and exploring the book the Colour Monster. Across the week, we have been thinking about how we feel and what can make us feel each emotion. The children have been very engaged with the activities and story across the week and have been making some lovely connections to the colour of each monster to the emotion it represents. They enjoyed making their own colour monsters using a variety of colours to decorate, labelling both the colours and the emotions.
Painting has continued to be a large interest of the children’s as they explore creating marks on the easel. The children have been showing independence as they collected the aprons to try and put on. If struggling with the apron, they then asked staff to “help” put the apron on. We have been exploring creating horizontal and vertical marks, circular marks and squiggles.
During group times, we explored following patterns using the colour blocks. Staff modelled placing the blocks on top of the cards and the children then proceeded to have a go themselves. Some of the children were able to look at the pattern cards and select the colour blocks they needed. When all of the colours had been used some of the children were able to ask for a colour block or some of the other children swapped their blocks.
Outdoor Learning
Our garden is always a favourite area to explore in for our children, as they are keen to get ready to go in the outdoors. In the garden, we see the children’s imagination continue to develop. This week the children have been exploring retelling well known stories such as The Three Little Pigs and Three Billy Goats Gruff. We have engaged in imaginative play in the kitchen as the children prepare food to share with peers and staff.
Our sandpit has been a popular choice in the garden as we added some ice cream cones. The children explored creating their own ice creams and engaged in imaginative play as they asked for a flavour of ice cream such as “chocolate” and “mint”.
