2-3: The Discovery Hub

We have had another lovely week in the Discovery Hub as the children are becoming more confident in moving around the environment and are creating their own interests in the various areas. We have continued to support the children this week by following the routine for transitioning between indoors and outdoors, for snack and group times.

This week, we have been spending lots of time in the outdoor environments in our various garden spaces. The children have been showing an interest with rolling balls, cars and trains down the guttering. Some of the children have been experimenting rolling the various sized vehicles down the different types of guttering as they test out which will fit to roll down. We added a picnic blanket to the garden this week and the children have enjoyed sharing the food out with peers and staff.

Our playdough area has been a popular area this week, as the children have been exploring various ways to manipulate the playdough using their hands and tools. As we develop our fine and gross motor skills, staff have modelled how we can roll the playdough into balls and wiggly worms, press the dough to flatten and squeeze the playdough between our fingers and palms.

The children have enjoyed mark making this week in both our indoor and outdoor environment. We have been exploring mark making using various equipment such as chalks on the ground in the garden, water with brushes on the wall and crayons on large paper. The children have enjoyed creating exploratory marks on the various surface and it continues to be a popular interest.
