2-3: The Discovery Hub
We have had a very busy week in the Discovery Hub this week. It has been wonderful to see all of the children return this week so confidently into the nursery. This week Mercy has joined the team in the Discovery Hub and the children are building some lovely relationships with her.
Parents as Partners
Next week we will be taking part in Nursery Rhyme Week. Please let us know if your child has a favourite nursery rhyme we can sing in nursery.
Due to very limited peg space, can we please ask bags are not brought to nursery. Each child has a named basket where we can keep nappies, wipes and spare clothes. We also ask no food or drink is to be brought into the nursery room due to allergies we may have in the nursery.
We have had a few illnesses over the last few weeks. Please could you read the previous post about recent illnesses.
If you have messaged to book a time with your child’s Key Person, Emma will be in touch with times available. Please message Emma if you would like to make an appointment.
Playing and Exploring/Active Learning
This week our story of the week has been Leaf Man. From this we have continued to look at the changes occurring during this Autumn season. We collected leaves from the garden to use in our sticking area. As we looked in the book, the leaves create various figures so we then explored creating our own. Once the children had stuck the leaves onto the paper they explored adding eye stickers commenting “2 eyes” or “more eyes”.
The children have been very keen to talk about fireworks this week. We have been discussing our own experiences, recalling the colours we may have seen and the sounds the fireworks created. The children suggested various sounds such as “boom”, “bang” and “woo”. Some of the children discussed how it needs to be “dark” to see the fireworks and how they were “loud”.
As we explored the interest of fireworks some of the children explored creating fireworks in the creative areas. Using stars to stamp onto paper with the glue, the children then explored squeezing the bottles to add some colours to their fireworks. It was lovely to see how focused the children were creating their pictures.
Other children explored using brushes to move around coloured rice and sand to reveal the fireworks underneath. In our mark making area, the children explored creating firework movements commenting “woosh” as they made a mark.
We explored using our fine motor skills to wrap sparkly pipe cleaners around wooden sticks to create a firework. The children explored creating big movements with their fireworks as we danced to music.
Outdoor learning
The children continue to show great interest with collecting leaves in the garden. We added some wheelbarrows to the garden which the children took turns in using to push around. They worked together to create collections of leaves and helped each other transfer them into the wheelbarrows. We then began to place the leaves into bags and the children were keen to see who could collect the most leaves.
We explored using mud in the garden to create pictures. The children showed curiosity with the mud and brushes and began to explore. They began to dip the brushes into the mud before spreading across the paper. As the were proud of their achievements they moved around the garden to show staff and peers their pictures.
We hope you have a lovely weekend! If you see any fireworks we would love to see any photos or videos to share with the children.
Many thanks The Nursery Team
