2-3: The Discovery Hub

We have had a lovely week in the Discovery Hub as we welcome back the children after the Summer holidays and welcome new children and families to the Nursery. We are so proud of the children this week as they are settling in to the environment and routine, finding new interest in the environments.

This week the children have been enjoying joining with nursery rhymes as we use puppets and props to take turns to select nursery rhymes. Some of the children have suggested their favourite rhymes as they choose an item out of the basket. The children are showing lovely engagement with action rhymes such as Wind the Bobbin and Sleeping Bunnies.

Across the week the children have been exploring various resources and sensory texture as they show curiosity with paint, flour, sand and foam. During these explorations the children have been curious to explore the texture of the material by using their fingers and whole hands. As the children have explored the flour, paint brushes were offered to explore mark making opportunities. It has been a pleasure to see the children engaging in these explorations as they develop confidence to have a go at new experiences and begin to show enjoyment in their choosing. Staff have observed a popular interest with the vehicles and trains as we have joined as play partners to develop their play ideas.

The children have been exploring opportunities in the garden areas as we introduce new outdoor environments. In the garden the children have continued to explore new resources and have returned to some favourite resources. In the bottom garden the children explored physical challenges as they explored climbing up and down the ladders and stepping up and down from the tyres. In our Discovery Hub garden, there has been an interest with using water to create marks on the wall and imaginary play as children have explored creating food using natural resources available.

Our team in the Discovery Hub and very proud of the children returning, transitioning rooms and starting the Nursery this week as we have had the opportunity to join them in their play and develop staff relationships.

Please can we ask for you to check your child’s permissions have been selected so we have the most up to date information.

Please feel free to send in observations from home to share with the team of the experiences they have at home. We would appreciate if you could forward some photographs of special people in your family. This could be parents, siblings, grandparents, aunties and uncles, cousins, family friends, and of course pets onto your child’s Learning Journal.

Sharing these photographs with your child’s Key Person and Nursery staff will give them a sense of belonging and further develop their communication and language skills. We have attached information of uploading photographs/observations onto your child’s Learning Journal. If you need any support, please see Nursery staff.

Have a lovely weekend!
