Investigation Hub and Discovery Hub at Deckham
We had a lovely time at our ‘Stay and Play’ sessions this week. Thank you to everyone that was able to attend.
The children engaged in some winter themed activities and play.
The children helped to make gingerbread playdough this week, thinking about the ingredients that were used, measuring, pouring and stirring everything together. They smelled the ginger before adding it to the dough. It made the dough smell delicious! At the ‘Stay and Play’, we made gingerbread people with the dough, using creative ideas to add features, for example, using a matchstick to print eyes and a nose.
Mark-making can be done in a range of different media, and for our session, we used salt and glitter to mark-make. The children created some great patterns and super snowflakes.
Play foam with ice provided lots of opportunity for investigation. The children explored how to remove the creatures that were frozen within the ice. As the ice began to melt, it changed the consistency of the play foam, with one child observing “It’s like the sea!”
The children also enjoyed choosing materials to decorate wooden trees and stars. They are developing control in using single-handed tools such as glue spreaders and paintbrushes.
