The Nest

We are so excited to welcome our new and returning families to the Nest. It has been such a delight to observe our newer children adapting wonderfully to the nursery routine and environment, they have all done so well and we are so proud of them!

Physical Development:

The children have explored loose parts through sensory rich, self directed actions like mouthing, banging, filling, building and dumping open ended objects. The children have spent a considerable amount of time in exploring various objects and developing their understanding on how they can be used in different ways. Our metallic objects continue to be a fantastic learning opportunity for our children to truly engage in some focused shared play opportunities with one another.

Wednesday was “National Coconut Day” this allowed us to provide a new and exciting material that could be used to scoop and explore the sand, alongside some wooden utensils. The children were interested and held the shell in their hands, looking at it so intently as they felt the textured outer part.

Communication and Language:

We introduced a tray of ducks, and nets alongside our “One Lucky Duck” story this week which all of the children have spent time engaging with – by climbing into the tray, feeling the ducks, exploring the nets and listening to the sound the ducks make which provided lots of giggles and smiles! Some of our children repeated the “quack” sound back to an adult. We have enjoyed sharing the nursery rhyme “5 Little Ducks” lots of times this week.

We discovered this week that combining our coconut shells made a fantastic noise which had the children fascinated – looking to the sound, babbling and requesting “more!”
