Investigation Hub and Discovery Hub at Deckham
This week we have been decorating our real Christmas tree!
The children enjoyed looking at the baubles and discussing their size and colour before deciding where to hang them on the tree. The tree is now beautifully decorated! We also have smaller trees and even a felt tree that the children have enjoyed decorating repeatedly as they add and remove decorations.
The children have had the opportunity to decorate their own wooden baubles. They chose the materials that they would like to add to their bauble to make it unique to them. They were very proud of their creations!
Characteristics of effective learning – Active learning
At the painting area this week, the children have created marks using a range of tools including stampers, rollers and sponges. They worked collaboratively, exploring the process of using these painting tools, on large paper.
Our children always demonstrate fantastic independence when using the painting area by selecting their own paint palette and painting tools and adding the paint to the palette themselves, seeking help if they need it.
This week we have enjoyed sharing the story ‘Dear Santa’ together. The children enjoyed the interactive elements of the book; opening the flaps to reveal the presents and joining in with the repeated refrains within the text. Inspired by the story, the Investigation Hub children thought of a present that Santa might wrap up and drew representations of their ideas. Some children looked in the book for ideas and others thought of their own original ideas. The children were encouraged to ascribe meaning to their marks as they drew. They drew a range of presents including dolls, dinosaurs, cars and cats!
