2-3: The Discovery Hub and 3-4: The Investigation Hub at Deckham
It has been lovely to see the friendships develop and relationships grow with staff with both our Investigators and Discoverers. We have continued to enjoy the garden environment this week as we continue to explore new and favourite areas in the garden. The children have been enjoying mark making, making sandcastles, playing with the vehicles and creating structures with polydron.
Communication and Language
This week the children have enjoyed engaging with the parachute indoors and outdoors. While exploring with the parachute the children listened carefully to the instructions with how to move the parachute. As the children became more confident with the actions, they begun to contribute ideas of actions and songs to sing.
Play and Exploring
The playdough area has been a great interest this week as many of the children have been exploring their interests. The children have been exploring manipulating the playdough as they roll, squeeze, squash and cut the dough with their hands and tools. Some of the children are developing their imaginative ideas as they explore with the playdough making cupcakes, cookies and pizzas.
Outdoor Learning
This week there has been a large interest with animals in the outdoor environment. We have explored using the loose parts in the garden to represent our imaginative ideas. This week we have worked together to create a ‘zoo’ and a ‘farm’ and taken on roles of animals. The children have made connections with how to care for animals making sure the ‘animals’ have water and food, one child commenting “tigers eat meat”. As we engaged in our imaginative ideas we explored representing our ‘zoo’ with marks as the children suggested we needed a map to find our way around. The children have made connections to their own experiences of going to the farm and acted out buying tickets and going on tractors rides around the garden.
Active Learning
This week we had a celebration for VE Day. During the day, we explored decorating biscuits and making flags. The children explored mark making as the decorated their flags. We joined together as we had a “celebration snack” as we decorated our snack areas and talked about the colours of our decorations. The Investigators discussed how we were celebrating “people who protected and looked after us a long time ago”. Children asked questions to gain a deeper understanding such as “before I was a baby?” trying to understand the timeline. After snack, we used the flags we had made as we listened to music and waved the flags.
Parents as Partners
This week our song of the week has been There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden. The children have been very engaged with animal themed nursery rhymes as we follow the children’s interests this week.
For the children who are starting Reception in September please find the sign-up sheet on the notice board for the Fun Run. For more information please speak with Emma.
