2-3: The Discovery Hub and 3-4: The Investigation Hub at Deckham

We have had lovely first week back with the children since returning from the holidays. We would like to welcome all the new families and children to our nursery, it has been lovely to meet you all.

Communication and Language

We would like to thank everyone who had sent in photos over the holidays. The children have loved sharing their photos with each other and have reflected to explain the photos to their friends and staff. It has been lovely to hear their amazing stories of their adventures.

Play and Exploring

This week the children have enjoyed exploring in their favourite areas after the holidays. It has been amazing observing and joining alongside children as our new starters explore their new environments and resources. The children have been exploring together in shared interests as well as exploring independently or with staff.

Outdoor Learning

It has been lovely to enjoy the nice weather this week in the garden. We continue to develop our garden area with resources and spaces for the children to explore. This week the children have used their problem-solving skills and collaborative play skills to explore the polydron. We explored joining the pieces together working out which sides need to join and experimented turning and twisting the pieces. The children worked together to create a “rocket ship”, they used language such as “we need more”, “can I have a blue one?” and “it is taller than you” while working with the pieces. Across the week, the children have become more confident using the pieces and have explored widening their ideas building house and roads for cars. The children have enjoyed developing their imaginative ideas as they explore representing their ideas in the Mud Kitchen making cupcakes or in the loose parts making police cars.

Across the week, we have discussed with the children how we need to keep safe in the sun by sitting in the shade, wearing our hats, putting on our sun cream and drinking lots of water. The children are becoming more independent as they pour some water to have a drink in the garden and we enjoyed some juicy oranges to cool us down.

Active Learning

The children have been working on their cutting skills using scissors. In the sticking area the children have been exploring using various styles of scissors to cut and make snips. The children continue to develop their fine motor skills as all of these skills help us with our mark making skills and strength to hold mark making tools.

Parents as Partners

This week our song of the week has been Peter Rabbit. The children have been very engaged with nursery rhymes as children suggest their favourite rhymes for everyone to join in with.

Please feel free to send in more observations from home as we would love to explore these weekly with the children.

Just a reminder nursery is closed on Monday 5th May for Bank Holiday and will reopen on Tuesday 6th May.

Have a lovely long weekend!
