Playing, exploring and active learning
We have been talking about the solar eclipse and the children have shown a lot of interest in this topic. The children enjoyed an activity using circle stencils, black card and chalks to make their own moon pictures. Some children then decided to make their own sun pictures as well. The children have also been looking at the sky and pointing out they can see the sun and telling staff the moon comes out at night.
Following on from the children’s interests last week of using pipettes we decided to let them explore using them in the water tray. We did an activity where the children used the pipettes to drop colours in to the water and see the water change colours.
Story of the week
Our story of the week is The stick man which has been very popular with the children. The children have been able to recognise parts of the story and are always engaged when it’s being read. Furthermore we decided to go for a walk to find our own sticks and then create our own stick men. The children made some lovely creations using sellotape, scissors, card and their sticks. This activity has supported their fine motor skills and has shown how well the children can identify parts of the body. The children have also explored using sticks to paint with and painting the sticks.
Outdoor play
The Children have used the decking area a lot this week as the weather has been very hot and sunny so we could keep cool. Where they have been jumping on the trampoline and enjoying ball games with large inflatable balls. The children have shown excellent throwing and catching skills. The children have been on a walk to find sticks for our stick man activity and painting activity. The children have also enjoyed mark making with chalks on the ground and on card for their moon pictures outside. We have also used water pots and brushes to paint the walls and spray bottles for the children to spray the walls further developing their fine motor skills.

Parent partnership
Thank you for your continued support through out the summer with the hot weather. The temperatures have been very high and keeping the children cool, safe and hydrated has been our priority.
Please continue to keep applying suncream so your child is ready to start their nursery day. There is suncream at the front of nursery if you forget.
We love to see your shared experiences at home so feel free to upload your own observations to Famly via parent observation.
