The Den:

This week in The Den, we have been exploring jungle animals as a follow on from looking at farm animals as this is a big interest for all children. We have also been enjoying some water play. You also might of noticed we have expanded The Den’s environment to allow the children to explore more and extend their learning opportunities.

Characteristics of effective learning:

We are always amazed by the children’s focus and ‘have a go attitude’ when participating in activities. The children demonstrated that as we had our water tray out which was lovely for the children as they all (at their own pace) explored the water tray in a range of ways! Some children splashed their hands in the water while others rubbed water on their face. Some even climbed inside our water tray demonstrating great schematic play!

Physical development:

The children have enjoyed making the most of the outdoor environment throughout the week .They have engaged in some physical activities like the climbing frame when the children have been gaining more confidence in using the frame independently. As well as this, the children have been showing a lot more independence in the bikes this week pushing them selves physically to successfully mount on and off the bike.

Communication and language:

Group time is always a favourite with the children so this week we have been using group time to look at our jungle and zoo animals more clearly. The children have enjoyed trying to sign some of our favourite animals such as Lion and Crocodile. The children did such good turn taking over group time while they all independently chose an animal from the bag to look at. Furthermore, the children have especially enjoyed ‘Down in the jungle’ and ‘Walking in the jungle’ linking in with our animal theme!

Parents as partners:

We have some of our older children are transitioning into the 2-3 environment, it has been such a joy watching them thrive in their new space and follow the routine so well! To aid in children’s transition, please send photographs of family members so we can create family books for the children.

You might of heard the lovely news that we are lucky enough to have some ducks at nursery. Some children have been able to visit the ducks this week during quieter times but please feel free to take your child to have a look at drop off or pick up. Please can we mindful of the ducks and not get them out of the cage without a staff member, Thank you!

Staffing Updates:

Some of you may if noticed that we have a new apprentice starting with us called Laney who will be helping to support in The Den.

We also have a new member of staff who will be starting on Monday and based in The Den called Holly.
