The Den:
We have had a busy week in The Den as we focus on bonfire night! The children have enjoyed creating firework inspired artwork.
Characteristics of effective learning:
Some parents told us that they were planning to go and watch the fireworks on bonfire night. This prompted us to create some artwork inspired by the fireworks. We used cardboard tubes to create dabbers so the children could use these to create ‘firework’ marks on the paper. The children were fascinated by the patterns left behind on the paper. we spoke about the different colours we were using and lots of the children made attempts to repeat back the colours. This also prompted a discussion about the sounds fireworks make. The children repeated back descriptive language like “bang, pop” and “wee”.
Outdoor learning:
The fallen leaves in thr garden continue to be an interest with the children. On Monday, I swept them into a pile. The children were very intrigued and came over to look they spent lots of time jumping/ walking through the pile of leaves. We listened to the crunchy sound it made. We then collected a variety of leaves and brought them inside to explore on the light panel!
The children were fascinated when they were placed on the panel as it enhanced the details. We spoke about what we could se, like little holes that were made by insects and comparing the size/ shape or them.
Sensory exploration:
To extend this further, we created a sensory area. We added lots of mirrors, sensory shakers, metal stackers and fairy lights to the space to create a calm environment. The children were very intrigued by the area and enjoys exploring the new resources.
Parents as partners:
Due to very limited peg space, can we please ask bags are not brought to nursery. Each child has a named basket where we can keep nappies, wipes and spare clothes. A member of staff will be in touch if anything in your child’s basket needs replenishing.
Next week is nursery rhyme week!
We will be carrying out activities next week linked to known nursery rhymes. Please share any rhymes your child likes at to sing at home!
