The den:
We have had another fun week, with a focus on ball exploration and ‘5 little speckled frogs’.
Characteristics of effective learning:
The children have enjoyed playing with the sensory light up balls in the sensory room, so to extend this further, we created a ball pool for the children to play in. We filled the spinning top with balls and encouraged the children to climb inside. They had lots of fun picking up the balls and throwing them around. This was a great opportunity to talk about different primary colours as the children picked up the balls.
We added some brushes to the sand this week so the children could experiment with mark making opportunities. They picked up brushes and used big and large strokes to make marks. We were really pleased to see the children to engaged in their play as they at for extended periods of time in the sand area.
During group time, the children have particularly enjoyed singing 5 little speckled frogs. To continue this interest, we created a small world area with frogs. We added wooden logs and different textured tiles so the children could explore different textures. The children loved this and used the frog props to jump around the environment.
