2-3: The Discovery Hub
It has been another lovely week in the Discovery Hub. Across the week the children have continued to grow in confidence with accessing the environment independently. We have begun to introduce welcome time and rhyme time with the children and the children are beginning to access these parts of the routine well.
Play and exploring
As the children begin to explore with new resources we can see the children creating new interests. Mark making has been a great interest this week as the children explore using various tools to create marks. In the garden, the children have explored using water and brushes to create marks on the wall. We added chalks to the garden area and the children explored creating exploratory marks and then used the brushes to clean their marks to have another turn. This week, paint was offered in our studio area. The children begin to follow the process of using aprons to wear before painting. As the children painted, some of the children were able to label the colours they were using. When they had completed their paintings the showed pride in their achievements as they showed staff.
In the home corner, we have observed the children acting out home experiences which has been lovely to observe and join in alongside the children. The babies have been a popular interest, as the children took care of them asking staff to help put the clothes on them, wrapped them in blankets and prepared them food. As the children develop their interest they are beginning to share interests with their peers and explore alongside each other.
Physical Development
Across the areas the children have been developing their fine motor skills as they access various mark making tools. Exploring how to hold the various tools such as pencils, crayons and brushes. In the sand area, the children have been exploring filling and emptying containers, testing out their spatial awareness as the manoeuvre tools using both hands.
Communication and Language
As we are seeing the children develop their confidence and relationship with staff, it is lovely to see the developments within the children’s speech and communication. This week as we introduce story and rhyme time, the children are beginning to contribute suggesting their favourite rhymes for the groups to sing.
Staffing Updates
Lauren and Karen are on Annual Leave next week.
Parents as Partners
We love to see observations from home as we share these with the children in nursery. This is a lovely opportunity for Key Persons to share the photos with the children as they talk about people who are special to them and most recent events.
Please can we ask if your child is going to be absent from nursery that you can either add this to the app yourself, ring the office on 0191 433 4090 or message Emma or the Discovery Hub team to keep Nursery informed.
Many thanks
