2-3: The Discovery Hub
We have had a lovely week welcoming all of the children back this week after the holidays. It has been lovely to hear the lovely experiences the children have engaged in going to the farm, finding frogs, helping in the garden and going to the beach. The children were all so excited to share the photos. We love to hear all of the achievements such as helping to prepare food, helping with things at home, going on walks, putting their own shoes on or moving into a big bed.
During the week, the children noticed a police car in the car park. They all lined up along the window to observe the car and were excited to share with staff and their friends. We took turns to have a closer look at the police car and the children observed the features on the car such as the lights and talked about the noise the siren makes.
Playing and Exploring
This week we have been continuing our explorations of planting seed and flowers. The children are beginning to make some wonderful connections with how we look after our plants commenting “need water” and “sunshine”. They continue to observe the growth of the bean stalks we planted a few weeks ago. This week we explored planting cress seeds and the children noticed how the seeds were “small” and “tiny”.
The children showed curiosity with the tray with rice and flowers in. They explored using the plant pots to scoop up the rice as well as using their hands to scoop. The children then proceeded to place the flowers into the plant pots. While exploring, the children began to label the colour of petals they could see. We then added the flowers into the water tray where the children explored using the fishing nets to scoop up the flowers and leaves. Demonstrating good control in their movements to scoop the flowers.
Outdoor Learning
In the garden, the children were interested with helping to plant the flowers. They listened carefully and followed the instructions to help pour in the soil and they helped to select with flowers to choose. We explored looking at the roots of the flowers and explored touching the roots.
While playing in the garden, it began to rain and the children used their problem-solving skills to find ways to seek cover from the rain. Some of the children moved to under the shelters in the garden and other children explored using the carboard boxes to hide in.
Parents as Partners
We have a staff training day Friday 26th June 2026, nursery will be closed to all children.
Please can we ask to ensure the safety of the children that all parents/carers close the gate when entering and exiting the premises.
Many thanks
