The Nest

We’ve had a busy week in the Nest with new children visiting and some children visiting the Den. We are so proud of the children, as they have adapted well within their new environment.

Our focused song this week has been “Five Little Ducks.” The children have thoroughly enjoyed this song, especially when the ducks go “Quack, Quack.” There has been a great deal of enjoyment from the children, with lots of engagement and interaction.

Characteristics of Effective Learning

The children were curious about the paint by placing their hands in the paint observing it’s texture and movement. They picked up the heart and flower shaped cutters, gripping it firmly with their whole hand, and examined it with intense focus. The children moved the cutters around the paper creating some lovely marks.

Physical Development

The children demonstrated good use of their fine motor skills by placing the flowers into the colander. They grasped the stem of the flower using their pincer grip and placed it directly into the hole. There was a lot of concentration observed from the children as they were fully engaged in what they were doing.

Communication and Language

The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the duck themed tuff tray, which featured ducks, nets, boats, sensory mats and fabric. They demonstrated a good understanding of the question “What noise does a duck make?” by responding with “Quack Quack” and accompanying their response with hand actions.
