The Den:
The children have had lots of fun creating Mother’s Day cards this week for special people! We used a range of stampers like flowers and hearts to create the cards. Some of the children spoke “mammy… card” as they were creating their pictures.
Communication and language:
Farm animals continue to be an interest with the children! We have been looking at them this week with the addition of the wooden tractor and animals in our small world area! We added some puppets too so the children could help link sounds to the animals. To extend this further, we used an app on the iPad which shows pictures of animals. When the animal picture is pressed, it produces the correlating animal sound- the children loved this!
I asked “can you find the duck?” The children would look closely at the animals and make an attempt to find the correct animal. They became really excited when the noise was made!
We have observed some fantastic role-play this week in the home corner. We added some new babies and a pram for the children to explore. We watched as the children wrapped the babies in blankets, fed hem using bowls and spoons and took them for ‘walks’ around the environment in the pram.
Outdoor learning:
We have been very happy to observe some sun this week! The children were really excited to head outside when we spoke about the sunshine at group time. They have enjoyed a range of physical experiences like rolling balls/ cars down the ramp and retrieving them from the bottom. We also observed lots of birds outside too- including a birds nest! We explained that nests are birds houses and the children were really excited to point them out when observed in the environment.
Parents as partners:
All 0-2 staff attended an online webinar about ‘babies outdoors’ this week. We are really excited to share some knowledge we have learnt from the training with you all in the coming weeks.
