The Nest
We have had such a busy Autumn term in the nest with new children starting with us at Bensham and children leaving us to start their new journey to the Den. It has been a pleasure watching the children grow and develop into confident young people.
Characteristics of Effective Learning
The children enjoyed exploring the Christmas sensory tray including tinsel, baubles, stockings and puppets. Placing the baubles into the stocking, they showed good control and hand-eye coordination. The children explored using their hands, feeling the texture of the tinsel. They spent a considerable amount of time investigating different objects in the tray, showing obvious enjoyment and curiosity.
Physical Development
The children had a lovely time in exploring the Christmas rice with wooden objects further developing their fine motor skills and hand eye coordination. The children were using their hands to feel the texture, as they were grasping handfuls of the rice and placing it into the bowl. They picked up the spoon using their whole hand grasp to scoop some of the rice.
The children have experimented with rolling pins and Christmas cutters to explore the play dough. They showed good control in moving the rolling pin back and forth in the play dough further developing their hand eye coordination. There was lots of involvement and enjoyment, as the children were so engaged in what they were doing.
Communication and Language
The children have enjoyed looking at Christmas books and props where they have been really excited to look and feel the different pictures and textures. There was some lovely interactions between the children with lots of smiling and sharing of the books.
