2-3: The Discovery Hub
Communication and Language
Across the week we have introduce our core text That’s not my monkey. We have explored listening to the story and feeling the pages in turns. We have explored using monkey puppets while reading the story and the children showed great interest with the puppets. During group times, we have been exploring with the parachute, following instructions on how to move the parachute. The monkeys even came to join the children on the parachute to bounce up and down. The children became very involved with this imaginative play as they told the monkey to “sleep” “shhhh” and then shouted “wake up” before proceeding to shake the parachute.
Outdoor Learning
Our time in the garden is always a popular interest. This week we have been continuing exploring physical challenges as the children explore balancing across various beams and stepping stones. During these explorations the children are showing growing confidence as they ‘have a go’ with walking across the beams, sometimes asking for a “hand” for “help” from an adult or peer. It has been lovely to see the friendships developing in nursery as the children begin to help each other in experiences or join alongside their peers.
Playing and Exploring
Our water area has been popular this week as the children enjoy exploring with the animals in the water tray. The children experiment using the animals and fish to squeeze the water out. Using their hands, the explored squeezing trying to suck the water up and persisted as this can be tricky. The children begin to show focus as they explore pouring the water from the jugs into other containers, jugs and back into the water tray.
Staffing updates
This week, Dianne took part in training which was on meeting the needs of every child in the early years, focusing on SEND. She looked at the 4 board areas of needs and how we can support children and families within our setting. As well as, the importance of focusing on the individual child, supporting them and which factors promote inclusive teaching and learning.
Parents as Partners
This week our song of the week has been Incy Wincy Spider. The children have enjoyed singing this song and have explored using some signs while singing.
The children have begun to notice some of the changes in the garden as we begin to move into the autumn season. While exploring in the gardens, we have begun to notice the leaves starting to fall to the ground. It is a great opportunity to discuss the seasonal changes as well as labelling what we can see happening such as the changing colour of leaves or the difference is shapes and sizes of the leaves. Maybe this weekend you may find a collection of leaves the children may want to bring in and show everyone at nursery.
Have a lovely weekend!
