Characteristics of effective learning

(Playing And Exploring)

This week we have focused on puppets during group time! The children engage really well with puppets as they display positive emotions while using them. The use of puppets also helps us expand their knowledge on topics we are focusing on as they physically able to see, touch and manoeuvre the puppet.

We also have looked at shapes this week as a few of our children are beginning to identify simple shapes such as ‘square’ and ‘circle’. By focusing on shapes, we have been able to adapt this into other play such as drawing, building, junk modelling and playdough.

Furthermore, the children have also enjoyed exploring water in the side garden, as they mark make by using the water as paint and dipping the paint brush in and moving their arms and hands in various ways to watch the water trickle down the wall.

during these activities the children used a range of vocabulary such as:

‘Wow!’ ‘It’s Circle’ ‘Spider! Incy Wincy Spider!’
