2-3: The Discovery Hub and 3-4: The Investigation Hub at Deckham

We cannot quite believe how quick this term is going. We can see the children becoming more independent in the nursery choosing their own resources in the environment and becoming more confident in choices as they access areas of interests.

Play and Exploring

This week we had Fay join us for a session of Yoga. The children took part in a warm up to the session listening to the chimes before following Fay’s actions. It was lovely to see the children so engaged with the positions and ‘having a go’ at something new. Even the staff joined in with the songs to explore moving like various underwater creatures. To finish the yoga session, we joined in the cool down, lying down and observed and reached out for bubble floating down. We look forward to another session next week!

Outdoor Learning

Following last week, the children have continued exploring their interest of imaginative play taking on roles of animals. We added to the outdoor environment masks of farm animals and the children used these in their play to take on each animal role. The children have been taking turns this week with the masks to be the animals and the Farmer. It was lovely to hear the children singing Old McDonald while pointing to each animal to make the noise.

Active Learning

Some of the children have enjoyed exploring in the Sensory Room, investigating all of the resources available. The children love the Sensory Room observing the lights and the bubble tube. They have been investigating the large board testing out how to move the pieces or make a noise.

The Investigators have been thinking about our wider world as we have discussed Fairtrade. We have thought about where we get our bananas from, with the most common answer from the children being “the shop”. We then discussed “where do the shops get them from?”. Our Investigators, reflected and suggest many answers such as “the little shop gets them from the big shop” or “the factories at “Wrekenton”. We then looked at photos and discussed where some of the bananas come from, looking at a map to show the distance in between the countries thinking about how they would arrive at our shops.

Parents as Partners

This week our song of the week has been Mmm mmm went the little green frog.

We still have some spaces for the Fun Run next week (for the children who are starting Reception in September), if you would like to join please sign up. For more information please speak with Emma.

Just a reminder we will be closed for the May Half Term Monday 26th May till Friday 30th May. Nursery will reopen on Monday 2nd June.
