Active Learning

This week the children have shown a keen interest in creative mark making activities this was observed within the indoor enviroment with many children choosing to explore the art studio making beautiful group pictures using a range of materials, tools and resources. To help extend previous learning shape stampers, stencils and natural resources were later added to help build on current interests, encourage further communication while introducing vocabulary such as simple shapes.

Music and dance activities have also been very popular this week with many children enjoying song times and exploring the musical instruments. To help extend learning the children took part in a small group musical instruments activity which allows the children to sing favourite songs while playing new instruments. This encouraged the children to make different sounds while experimenting with volumes and tempos. All the children who participate enjoyed playing the instruments loud, quiet, fast and slow. 🥁🎶

Outdoor Learning

Following on from the children’s current interest in bugs, we carried out another bug hunt in the garden this week. This time we extended on this interest by introducing a camera, torch and clipboards, allowing the children to take their own pictures, look in dark spaces and draw the bugs they found.

The children all took turns to use the resources, demonstrating their growing capabilities to share with others. They were all able to operate the camera and torch with ease, using their finger to press the button.

This time we found two worms! Some of the children expressed their eagerness to hold the worm in the palm of their hand, giggling as it wriggled around. Others were happy to just observe the worm wriggling on my hand. The children used their magnifying glasses in the correct way as they searched for the bugs in the soil and to get a closer look at the worms.

Communication and Language

Throughout the week the children enjoyed talking about nursery experiences during group time as well as talking about special people they care about home. When observing the children playing it was lovely to see the children recreate familiar events they experienced either at home or within nursery.

As always stories have been popular within nursery this week with favourite stories such as The Gruffalo and The Three Billy Goats Gruff and remaining a firm favourite. It is lovely to observe the children recall the story lines and retelling the story later on within free play opportunities.

Physical Development

This week in the garden the children have enjoyed creating obstacles course with the resources found in the garden, this allowed the children to crawl over and under objects developing great gross motor skills.
